What’s in a painting?
Each viewer reads a different story into an image and comes to see more as they live with the painting.
It wasn’t until I finished “The Garden Party” that I saw something that made me smile.
Both my mother and her mother, “Flora Mary Riach Brown”, loved flowers as I do. This suggests to me that many of the ancestors did – it’s got to be in the DNA.
When I looked at this painting, the Gladiolas seemed to have the shape of women, disappearing into the distance. And when the wind moves the flowers, it’s easy to imagine a loved one near, yet far away.
